The last opportunity to gain valuable insight and practical Brexit advice will take place at The Crowne Plaza, NEC, Birmingham on Wednesday 17th October 2018 and attended by food businesses and non-food importers, logistics providers and consultants from the UK, Ireland, Europe and Asia.

Focusing on food, this final Brexit event will look at transit and how existing border arrangements today could be extended for EU-UK-EU trade.

“Imagine the UK were never in the EU, what kind of trade deal could the UK and EU strike? How attractive would the UK be to EU exporters and what power would the UK have in negotiating a favourable deal on UK exports against this back-drop?” asks Brexit specialist Robert Hardy.

“The rules of origin will soon become part of everyday life for the international trader. HM Revenue & Customs have sent 145,000 letters to ‘first time’ importers and exporters. Should we panic? No, there are processes in place that can significantly reduce friction and financial burden, and not just for EU but non-EU too!”

A director of Oakland International, experts in food distribution and logistics and Oakland Invicta, specialists at reducing food losses due to contamination, Robert Hardy is a certified Customs specialist preparing food businesses ahead of Brexit, a Brexit advisor to The Institute for Government, a funded advisor to InterTradeIreland and a registered international trade expert with the EU Commission.

Covering exports, imports, the customs union, the Irish Border and port delays, each theme will be unravelled and explained, offering delegates practical business advice and guidance. Event panellists will include Wendy Andrews VAT Director from Bishops Fleming, Karl Trumper Managing Director – UK Trade & Working Capital at Barclays, Dean Attwell CEO and Co-founder of Oakland International, Robert Hardy Director of Oakland Invicta along with leading industry advisors.

Added Robert: “Today, 140K traders create 50 million Customs declarations per annum. Post Brexit this is expected to grow by 200 million declarations and expose 140K additional importers/exporters to customs formalities for the first time. Tools including AEO, CFSP and Customs Warehousing are available today. AEO is 10 years old and CFSP and warehousing have been around for longer than that. It is very possible to embed Customs processes within your day-to-day business, but you need to accept change and adapt.

“If you do nothing, nothing will happen!”
